This February, the United War Veterans Council is once again celebrating Valentines Day by mobilizing the public to send messages of love and gratitude to our veterans, military service members, and their families. UWVC team members and volunteers will deliver cards and gifts to veteran’s hospitals and military installations throughout the Northeast — including the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
The fifth annual Goodwill Valentines Caravan Series runs from February 1st to 15th, and includes events at military installations on Brooklyn and Staten Island as well as a trip down to Walter Reed Military Medical Center. At each stop UWVC team members and volunteers will present gifts, candy, and hand-written Valentines Day cards to our wounded warriors, active duty service members, and veterans.
“People often think of our veterans and military on Christmas or Veterans Day, so why not Valentines Day?” says Executive Director Pat Gualtieri. “This is yet another way for the United War Veterans Council to shine the spotlight on those who serve, at a time of year when they often receive little attention.”
The 2013 Goodwill Caravan Series is sponsored by the United War Veterans Council’s recycling program, with additional support from HBO, U-Haul and the History Channel. Additional companies and groups making contributions include FOX5, NBC Universal, FDNY, the Stephen Siller Foundation and the Municipal Bond Women’s Club of New York.

The Municipal Bond Women’s Club writes Valentines cards. According to organizer Marleen, “This isn’t just about honoring service, this is about unconditional love."
